ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a London-based painter and photographer who developed artistic skills later in life through short courses and consistent self-practice. My work explores the interplay of light, shape, colour, and texture in both painting and photography. Deeply inspired by the Old Masters, I paint primarily in oil and tempera, often preparing my own pigments and working in layered techniques. When creating reproductions, I research historical methods and materials, sometimes visiting the original artwork’s location to enhance authenticity. Alongside this, I enjoy crafting original compositions that blend elements of still life, photography, and imagination.
In photography, I am particularly drawn to nature and landscape genres. I seek solitude and inspiration in remote, often challenging environments, aiming to capture the raw beauty and emotional depth of the natural world. Influenced by the greats of black and white landscape photography, I am also fascinated by the ethereal qualities of infrared photography, which evoke a sense of dreamlike mystery.
Since 2022, I’ve been exploring more abstract approaches, beginning with in-camera multiple exposures to interpret nature in new ways. In 2025, I began working with Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) to create expressive, abstract compositions directly in-camera. These images are minimally edited using Lightroom, typically requiring just five to ten minutes of retouching. My evolving practice reflects a deep commitment to both traditional techniques and innovative experimentation, always driven by a passion for visual storytelling through paint and lens.
